Charlotte, N.C. (June 13, 2007) – They’re both essential to the economy of the Carolinas, drawing millions of visitors to the area each year. On June 27, Carowinds and the motorsports industry come together for the first time as the park presents A Salute to Motorsports, featuring the Future Stars in Racing Training and Development Academy.

Drivers ages 9 to 18 from nine states will be on hand at the park all day signing autographs, posing for photos and answering questions. Their cars, which also will be on display from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., include Late Model Sportsman, Late Model Supertruck, Midget, Legends and Bandoleros.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Future Stars in Racing to present the park’s first salute to the motorsports industry,” said John Shanrock, general manager of Carowinds. “Charlotte has long been the hub of racing and Carowinds has been entertaining guests in the Carolinas for more than 35 years, so it’s a natural partnership that’s long overdue”

At races leading up to the Future Stars’ appearance at Carowinds, the young competitors will hand out autograph cards that allow the recipients to receive a discount admission to the park on the event day. The discount also will be valid on June 28 and 29. The tracks where the Future stars will be competing in June include Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.; Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway; Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway, and Caraway Speedway near Asheboro, N.C. Guests not able to attend one of these events to pick up a discount coupon can come to the front gate of the park on event day and ask for the “motorsports day” discount.

“It’s going to be a great day,” said Future Stars Academy founder Rolfe Schnur. “These are some of the finest young drivers in the nation. All of the kids we have in the academy are the kind you’d be proud to have as your neighbors.”

Future Stars in Racing Academy helps prepare young drivers for success outside the car in public speaking, sponsor presentations, working with the media and behavior on-and-off the track. Future Stars in Racing is the exclusive driver development partner with the ASA Late Model Series. Marketing partners include Safety-Kleen, Awesome Racewear, Jeff Gordon Racing School and Sunbelt Web Solutions. The Academy features a staff with decades of experience in all aspects of motorsports. The Future Stars drivers scheduled to appear have a total of 129 championships and 1,469 race wins in eight different forms of motorsports, giving fans the opportunity to gaze into racing’s crystal ball to see the names that will become legendary in the sport in the years to come.
